In Her Element is an up and coming, locally made, Filipino skincare brand. It's rising to the top fast because of it's well formulated products that were consciously created to be botanically-derived, cruelty-free and specifically directed at the modern, Filipina #girlboss. The packaging and overall presentation of the products are very minimalist and in Millennial Pink, nonetheless. Truly eye-catching and fresh! Being an older millennial, I have to admit, it was really what drew me to the brand in the first place. I'm not into pinks at all, but the minimalist packaging made me WANT. It reminded me so much of how a brand such as Glossier would present itself. Well, here we have our very own!
Another thing that drew me to the skincare line is the use of Rose extracts as one of the main ingredients. I love anything rose infused and it gets along very well with my skin. Rose is naturally soothing and calming, hydrating and repairing. It lets all of the skincare products in the range to be really basic and can be enjoyed by women of different ages and different skin concerns. Nothing is specifically 'anti-aging' or 'anti-acne' here. It's just plainly basic skincare in the best possible way. Let's just say, as soon as the samples arrived, about three weeks ago, I knew I wouldn't be disappointed. I was very eager to test them out!
However, I did have my fingers crossed a little bit on the cleansing oil at first. Just a week prior to receiving my IHE samples, I was also sampling another rose cleansing oil and it did not go well at all. I was majorly disappointed and frustrated with how it left my skin so dry and dull, and in need of repair and nourishment. It was the complete opposite of what rose does for the skin. I had about a week in between sampling the IHE First Wash Cleansing Oil and the other oil cleanser so I had no idea what would happen. In the end, I was pleasantly surprised! I wasn't expecting anything at all from IHE's Cleansing Oil but I was pleased to find that it did not strip or dehydrate my skin. First I massaged the oil on my dry face in the evening, and it quickly loosened up my sunscreen and BB Cream etc. I did not attempt to use this to remove my mascara though as I only had a tiny sample. The oil emulsifies with water and rinses clean afterward, with no oily residue at all. I used a different low pH rose cleanser I had on hand and I found my skin did not feel tight after my evening cleansing routine. Sadly, I only got two nights use out of the tiny sample but I'm glad that it was a pleasant experience.
There was a bit more of the Rose Gel Serum Moisturizer for me to be able to use for day and night. For the first night, I used the RGSM (long name) as a serum, layering it with my other skincare in my evening moisturizing routine. The lovely smell of fresh roses was a relaxing, sensorial experience as I applied it on top of my essence and under my night cream. Very happily, the texture of this rose gel layers very well! It absorbed quickly despite being layered and did not pill, or cause the product I put on top of it to pill off. I hate it very much whenever a product pills up into little balls as I apply it over my face. I do a multi-step routine nightly, so a product that works seamlessly together with my other skincare is a top priority when choosing a formulation. I have to say, the RGSM is very, very good for this!
In the morning, I used the Low pH Rose Gel Facial Wash to cleanse and followed with the RGSM. The facial wash was also very pleasant to use. It had the same light and fresh, rose fragrance. A little bit of the gel went a long way. It doesn't really create a foam, but there are some tiny bubbles while washing. Rinsing it off took a while at first, because I had accidentally put too much that first morning. That's when I figured out that you really need just a tiny bit of this, like, less than a pea-sized amount, for it to clean well. It was too bad I didn't test this out together with the cleansing oil. I wanted to test them out on their own initially, and not as a set, but I do believe this really pairs well with the cleansing oil, and it's also great on it's own.
As for the RGSM used in the mornings, I loved it as well. It's great because it sinks in immediately and isn't tacky. It worked well under my sunscreen and makeup, and my skin didn't dry out for the rest of the day. I have combination skin that tends to be dry rather than oily, and this gave me the right amount of hydration. Usually, I can tell if my moisturizer has evaporated when I'm left with fine lines on my forehead and dry patches around my nose by mid-afternoon. I was very pleased that my forehead was line-free until I took off my makeup while using this moisturizer.
To sum things up, and I'm going to be completely honest here; I had a very pleasant experience with In Her Element's core skincare range. If there was a gripe I had, it would be that these come in such small sizes! I wish everything was bigger!
The First Wash Oil Cleanser is just 100ml, which is tiny compared to most oil cleansers out in the market, which normally come at 200ml. It retails for PHP450.00, which I have to admit is also about half (or less!) the price of the larger oil cleansers. What concerns me is that it isn't as effective at removing makeup and debris as, say, DHC Cleansing Oil, which can remove heavy makeup and waterproof eye makeup in a single go. With the IHE oil, I need to use a lot, which means I'll run out of product fast. The pro is the IHE oil is completely non-irritating on my skin. The Rose Gel Serum Moisturizer only comes in 30ml for PHP895.00, which sadly, puts me off it a bit, despite the high quality of the product and it being a serum no less. If I were to use this twice a day, everyday, however, it would run out quite fast too. In contrast, I have some KBeauty items that perform exactly the same way, for the same price, at triple the amount of product. If IHE came out with larger sized products at the same price point, I would definitely be all over these! oh, I just really wish there was more for me to use! Can you already tell that I loved these?
Although, I do understand the current situation when it comes to manufacturing high-quality skincare products in our country. It runs expensive, unlike the manufacturing in Korea or Taiwan. Considering this, I guess the price for the amount we get for In Her Element is just right. Another thing to consider are the natural ingredients and the absence of preservatives. It's probably the best and the safest for these to be used in small batches.
We all know I SHOULD be supporting local brands and I'm very happy that IHE pretty much (nailed it!) for a local product; it's also specifically designed to fit the lifestyles of busy women such as myself, by delivering skincare products that are effective, easy to use and can sit prettily at my bathroom shelf. I've spent more than a week ruminating about my feelings and conceptions about the brand, and I conclude that they are all very well formulated and perform very well for what they are! These little babies are worth every peso and I thoroughly enjoyed the samples that were sent to me. If anything, those just whet the palate, and now I really want to try the other items from the range!
For the sake of economy, if there was one product out of the three that I think would give me the most bang for my buck, it would be the Low pH Rose Gel Facial Wash. A full-sized bottle is 100ml for PHP675.00 which isn't too bad, considering you'll only need a tiny bit each time, and still get the full In Her Element rosy experience. But if I were going to really treat myself, it would still be the Rose Gel Serum Moisturizer because I loved the texture and performance of it. I just might have to save up for it because I haven't been able to get it out of my mind since I tried it! And also, I don't want to miss out on supporting and patronizing the best local skincare brand I've found yet!
You can find out more about In Her Element and purchase their products from their website here, or you can also get them from BeautyMNL.com. It's also now available at most Beauty Bar stores too, where you can test out the full range of In Her Element products! The Pure Squalene Facial Oil and their new Triple Treat Eye Cream have got me interested!
Have a great weekend!
