Ahh, red, the color of passion. It's also a color a lot of women are still intimidated of wearing on their lips, let alone their eyes. But in this look today, we are going ALL RED. You'll find it can be wearable for a soft, date night face.
Shop your stash like I did. You'll only need a few things. Here's the list along with the products I used for my look.
- Your favorite sheer base Mac Face and Body Foundation
- Highlighter Benefit Sun Beam
- Matte Red Lipstick and/or lip liner Maybelline Lip Gradation Red 01, Mac Ruby Woo and Mac Cherry Lip Liner
- Contour Powder Benefit Hoola
- Neutral Eyeshadow for contouring Maybelline The Nudes Palette
- Brown Eyeliner Mac Teddy Eyeliner
- Brow Mascara Mac Pro Longwear Waterproof Brow Set
The key here is to blend, blend and blend. After applying a sheer base, I dabbed my red lipstick, Maybelline Lip Gradation on my eyelids, concentrating the color near my upper lashline. I blended it up to the socket where I married the red with my eyeshadow contour. I used the warm brown shade from Maybelline's The Nudes Palette, blurring the edges. After this, I smudged Mac Teddy, a warm and slightly reddish brown eyeliner in a V-shape on the outer corners of my eyes. Then, with a slanted eyeliner brush, I pushed and smudged the eyeliner towards the inner corners of the eyes. You can skip mascara for it to look edgy. Here, I wanted it more dramatic so I swiped some black mascara on after curling the eyelashes.
We won't be needing a strong brow with this one so just define what you got and set with some brow mascara to hold the hairs in place.
By the way, the lipstick shade is important here to make the look wearable. Choose the "universal shades of red," such as Mac Ruby Woo, which looks good on any skin tone. Maybelline Lip Gradation Red 01 is a close dupe of Ruby Woo which means that you can use whatever you used on your eyes and use it on your lips too.
To finish, just softly contour the outer edges of your face, just enough to warm up the skin. No blush. HIghlight the inner corners of the eyes and especially on your cheekbones for a soft glow.
The result is still soft, but it's all red! I think this look works for special occasions and specifically Valentine's Day, am I right? Not too over the top or editorial looking. Just sweet.
Thanks for stopping by and Happy Valentine's Day!
