Can you tell that I'm a total Nivea girl?
Hello again! I'm back with a review on one of my favorite drugstore skincare brands, Nivea. Nivea has been around for more than 100 years. With generations of loyal fans around the world, you can find Nivea products in almost any part of the world. The brand has an extensive skincare lineup: from face and body to baby and sun protection products, all formulated to suit any general skin concern effectively.
All Nivea products are affordable, but sadly, not all the products offered are available in my country. The company, catering to such a vast global market with diverse needs seems to have created product lines specifically for each demographic. Here, I have some products nivea has created specifically for the Asian market and a few from the European market. I love all of them but I have a favorite!
Read on to find out why I love Nivea Products!
Nivea Intensive Moisture Body Milk and Nivea White Repair UV Body Lotion (Made in Thailand) Available in the Philippines.
These lotions where created for the Asian Market to suit our skin needs in our weather. The weather in the majority of Asian countries is tropical and humid and sunny the whole year round. This means, lotions are formulated to be lightweight yet deeply hydrating and/or formulated with some form of sun protection for daily use. These lovelies are light, non-sticky and smell light and clean. Used everyday, these keep the skin smooth and supple.
Nivea Baby Bottom Ointment and Nivea Baby Smoothy Cream (Made in Turkey) Available in the Philippines
Gosh. Both my boys grew up on these products. These are perfect for young, delicate skin. I used to have the complete lineup of Nivea Baby; think baby wash, baby lotion, oil, etc. Now that my boys aren't toddlers anymore, I just like to keep the heavy duty and multi-purpose Bottom Ointment, which softens rough elbows, knees and feet , and the Smoothy Cream to hydrate their skin and keep it smooth and healthy. By the way, the Bottom Ointment is good for scratches and cuts after the scab falls off because it protects the new skin from external factors resulting in minimized scarring and darkening. NIvea Baby is formulated for babies but is suitable for sensitive skins of all ages.
Nivea Pure and Natural Toner, Nivea Pure and Natural Cleansing Milk and Nivea Hydrating Day Cream (Made in Germany) Available in Europe
Now, these Nivea products aren't available in the Philippines and I'm so sad about it! Nivea Pure and Natural Toner is a gentle toner infused with Bio Argan Oil and Aloe Vera to soothe and nourish the skin as it prepares the skin to receive the benefits of your next product. This toner is so gentle even if it has alcohol, that I can safely swipe it near my eyes without any stinging sensation. The Nivea Pure and Natural Cleansing Milk is also a a very nice makeup remover/morning cleanser. The texture is lighter and more airy than cold cream and it rinses clean without any residue. Sort of like Cetaphil Cleanser but with better cleansing power and smells better.
I have mixed feelings with The Nivea Hydrating Day Cream. To be fair, I should have picked the one formulated for combination skin instead of this one, which is formulated for normal skin. My skin takes too long to absorb this cream but the real dealbreaker is the fragrance. The fragrance of this product is not bad, but it is too strong for me and I feel like the scent lingers on my face. Maybe it's just me but I think this cream will work better in colder, dryer climates. I think my sort of problem is probably the reason why Nivea creates products specifically exclusive to Asian or Caucasian markets. But I still really want to try the one for combination skin though!
Nivea Sun Protect and Light Feel SPF50+ PA+++ and Nivea Sun Protect and Light Feel Refreshing Invisible Sun Mist SPF50 PA+++ (Made in Thailand) Available in the Philippines
Applying sun protection daily wasn't a habit of mine before. In recent years however, sunscreen manufacturers have been improving their formulas more and more into lightweight, non-sticky, effective formulas for all kinds of skin types. Nivea's facial sunscreen is alight fluid formulated for Asian skin that's prone to hyperpigmentation a.k.a. dark spots. This particular formula prevents sun damage as well as lightens dark spots. Meanwhile, the Refreshing Invisible Sun Mist is easy to apply and reapply when outdoors or wherever, at any time. It was so easy to incorporate sun protection when these gems perform so well and so affordable.
Nivea Soft (Tube)(Made in Germany)Available in Europe, Nivea Soft (Tub)(Made in Thailand)
Nivea Soft is one of Nivea's classic creams. It's formulated to apply more smoothly and has skin caring jojoba oil and vitamin E. This is more like a whipped lotion than a cream. I got the tube version while travelling in Europe just because it's so much easier to bring along than a huge tub. I like Nivea Soft more for my hands and body even if it says it can be used on the face. It doesn't seem to absorb well on my face and I get clogged pores from it. As a body cream though..wow. Silky softness.
Nivea Creme (Made in Germany) All sizes available in the Philippines except for the tube which is available in Europe.
Isn't it obvious that this is my favorite?
Nivea's classic and iconic cream housed in those signature blue tins were the first to combine water and oil to form the emollient cream the world loves today. The formula melts and seals in moisture to the skin, and prevents, and protects the skin's surface from moisture loss. I have used this on my whole being. I must have some form of it on me at all times. That's how much I'm dedicated to it. It is just so versatile. I'm talking about face and body here. It works well as a conditioning/styling treatment on my hair's lengths. I can use it to remove makeup. It heals scratches faster. The list goes on.
The trick to applying it everywhere is to warm it up in your palms and then press the product into your skin, after which you can start massaging your skin. The skin glows after this technique because of the combination of hydration and improved circulation.
The magic of Nivea Creme for me is when I use it to seal in my face treatments because it prevents the serums, essences or even acne treatments I use from evaporating. It does this without compromising the efficiency of the treatments. I have even mixed serums or essential oils with Nivea Creme. It makes for a beautiful base for other skincare products which is why I love it so much! Aaaand, there is also that talk about little ol' Nivea Creme being THE dupe and/or inspiration for none other than $$$ Creme De La Mer. I think I'll stay true to my affordable, magical staple.
. . .
So, my collection is quite extensive and this post has gotten quite long. I hope you enjoyed reading and maybe one of you is a Nivea fan too! If you are, please keep in touch!
