Being "kind of" a skincare junkie, I stock up *not embarrassed*on my HG daily products and sunscreen is of the utmost importance in my daily routine. I wear sunscreen indoors and outdoors daily to protect my skin and to ensure the other skincare I use remain activated during the day. My favorite sunscreen is Biore UV Aqua Rich; particularly the Watery Gel because I can use the one bottle from head to toe. It has been such a default product for me since 2015 that it hardly got much love on the blog! Sorry!
When Biore reformulated and launched the 2017 version in Japan early this year, I asked my brother, who happened to be in Osaka, to get me a few bottles. I’m so glad he did! I’m almost through with my first bottle and loving every bit of it aaaaand I happen to have a leftover bottle of the 2015 formula. After more than a month of comparing these two, here are my thoughts.
My comparison here isn’t extensive nor comprehensive. I won’t go into the details of the ingredients or actives in these products. This is just based on my experience from daily use of the products. Here we go..
For reference, I have combination-oily acne prone and sensitive skin.
Being used to the Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Gel 2015, I wasn’t too keen on the 2017 version’s satiny finish upon fresh application. After about 20 minutes though, it feels about the same. Both formulas just absorb and virtually disappear. Under makeup, these perform like primers already and gives makeup a nice base. On the body, it isn’t sticky at all. For the 2015 version, I had the major problem of having to reapply. It wasn’t that big of a deal for my legs and arms but it was a big problem for the face when I was wearing makeup. I compensated by using makeup with added SPF to touch up during the day.
With the 2017 version though, I almost don’t need to reapply at all! For daily use, which is just little to no sun exposure, The Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Gel 2017 can be worn all day without the need to reapply. This became the real deal when I used it for a full day outdoors with very hot and humid weather. I could tell that this stayed put. When I started to sweat, the finish started to become slightly shiny, like other water resistant sunscreens do. And the magic was that it didn’t become sticky even while sweaty! I reapplied once in 8 hours which I know is pushing the envelope a little considering I was under intense sunlight during the peak hours of the day. Still, the result was no redness, no tan lines, no sunburn in sight! No breakouts either. Very. Very. Impressed.
Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Gel the 2017 Version is the clear winner for me!
