Another sunscreen post!
Sun protection is a big deal nowadays, and brands are coming up with better and better formulations. Finding a good sunscreen can still be difficult though, despite the wide range of products available. Growing up, sunscreen was reserved for outdoor activities only, and the formulations were always white, sticky and shiny. The problem was even worse if you had sensitive skin and the only mineral sunscreens were all white, chalky and oily. Now, we are seeing better days ahead.
Brands are churning out so many good options right now, and what I have for review here today is for anyone looking for a good everyday mineral sunscreen.
What: Derma E Antioxidant Natural Sunscreen
Why: A mineral sunscreen that dries clear, thanks to Clear Zinc Oxide. Formulated with antioxidant-rich Green Tea and Vitamin E to care for your skin.
Where: Healthy Options Stores
Price: Php 745.00
How to Use: Apply on all your exposed areas at least 15 minutes before any sun exposure. Best used daily. Reapplication is necessary after excessive perspiration and swimming. Reapply at least every 2 hours if constantly exposed to the sun.
When: Mornings and every time I need to reapply.
Benefits: Non-sticky hypoallergenic broad spectrum UVA/UVB sun protection.
Wait, what is Zinc Oxide anyway?
Historically, Zinc has been used for thousands of years for its healing properties. Ingested, it helps strengthen our immune system. Applied topically, it heals and protects. Zinc Oxide is derived from Zinc and is used in many skincare products, particularly sunscreen. It is legendary for being very white and chalky on the skin but it’s your best bet against sunburn. Compared to chemical sunscreens, which can, if poorly formulated, oxidize after prolonged sun exposure and actually contribute to skin cancer risks; mineral sunscreen does not oxidize but rather forms a flexible shield on the skin where the sun’s rays bounce off. Another benefit is that it is completely reef friendly and is the safest product to use when in the ocean because we can protect our skin without harming a coral reef’s delicate ecosystem. It is also hypoallergenic and is often used by people with sensitive skin. The only caveat, it isn’t really water resistant because it just forms a protective film on the skin, so diligent reapplication is necessary. This is another sunblock I swear by and I always stock up on this. I was sent a bottle for review but I’ve been using this for more than a year now, oops! So, I have an extra bottle! I use both variants of the sunscreen. The one for the face is oil-free while the one for the body isn’t. I’ve used the body version on my face though, and it was just slightly more moisturizing. I think the body version is of better value because of the size and amount of product you get. I do like the oil-free version under makeup and it’s also really good for that too.
Now, I just did a review on another great sunscreen here, and you would probably be able to tell that I am sunscreen obsessed, somewhat. But! I feel incomplete without it in my daily routine because it protects my other products’ effects. However, the funny thing and the thing I love the most about Derma E Antioxidant Natural Sunscreen is that I can use it on its own! Because of its antioxidants and Vitamin E, I don’t really have to apply other skincare like serum or moisturizer anymore.
“But Phoebe, you’re a skincare junkie! And I’ve seen you and your whole stack of products just for one part of the day!” Let me stop you right there, because this is when I use it…when I workout! Yes, it’s perfect for that.
When sweating it out, my skin is more sensitized and is, more often than not, reddish and tends to get itchy. Surely all the pores on my face and body are wide open and letting out toxins too. I don’t want to be clogging up those pores with a chemical product. The antioxidants derived from Green Tea in this sunscreen and the Vitamin E soothe the skin and tone down redness, and moisturizes. The Zinc oxide calms down any itchies or impending breakouts. And of course, I’ll be protected on my next errand. Usually, on workout days, I don’t wear makeup, so reapplying is not a problem for me. Also, it saves me from lugging around all my other skincare essentials.
Another benefit I noticed while using this product is that it doesn’t stain or wreck my workout clothes. Which is a big deal for me because it’s hard to do one’s own laundry and workout clothes are expensive.
The bottom line for this whole review is that I love me some Derma E Sunscreen because it’s so practical and easy to use!
Get it if ...
