When I like certain product lines, I can't seem to get enough! I know the Face Shop Rice Water Bright has been around for ages and isn't getting much love on social media as it used to, and I'm probably very late in getting these...BUT!
These work wonderfully for their purpose and live up to its brightening claims. I know they are all used for cleansing and will likely not contribute much in the nourishment area, however, after using for more than two weeks now, I can say these work very well at brightening and evening out skin tone. It even lightened up some pimple marks. I don't incorporate a brightening product in my routine currently other than these. Maybe the BHA product I do have lends a huge helping hand in evening out the complexion too, although I've been using that one far longer and only noticed a significant difference in brightening while using Rice Water Bright. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that these have been working very well combined with my current AM/PM Routine.
Rice water has been used in East Asian beauty routines ( Japanese, Korean, Chinese) for thousands of years (know your history!). While there isn't much scientific research behind rice's brightening properties; as a folk remedy and the aforementioned-thousand years history behind using the extract for that purpose, I believe it's safe to say that rice water delivers bright, milky smooth skin. I mean, just look at those Geishas who still wash their faces with rice water to this day! I'm having whatever they're having!
Each and every product in The Face Shop Rice Water Bright complements each other. For example, the foam wash is your traditional facial foam. When used on its own it can leave the skin feeling tight. However, when used after the cleansing cream, the skin is left plump and moist and bright. On the other hand, the cleansing cream is your traditional cold cream which can leave the face oily after wiping off the makeup so you need the foam to take it off.
Here is a quick review of each:
Cleansing Milk - My favorite of them all! The texture is like a lightweight lotion but it can remove dirt and makeup. I use this in the morning because it can be rinsed off with just water. After rinsing, my skin feels so soft and smooth! I've been using it this way for a little more than two weeks already and I'm impressed that it did not clog my pores at all!
Cleansing Cream - My next favorite. Heavy duty cleansing cream that can take off ALL my face and lip makeup in one go. Stings when it gets in the eyes though! Too bad! It easily removed my waterproof mascara. This works exactly like traditional Pond's Cold Cream. I use tissue to wipe it all off then follow with the foam cleanser.
Foaming Cleanser - I would say this is your average foam cleanser that's similar to Pond's or Neutrogena. It foams up well and doesn't feel too harsh on its own. I like it best when I use it to remove all traces of the cleansing cream. The combination of both (double cleansing) leaves my skin bright and supple.
Lip and Eye Makeup Remover - This one is very gentle! It can take off waterproof mascara but requires patience. Since it doesn't sting, waiting for a minute for the product to take off the makeup is OK. I like that it leaves NO residue, doesn't irritate my sensitive eyes or dry out my lips. Since it's a lip makeup remover, it's actually a big deal that it has no taste!
Other products I would like to try from this line are is the Rice Water Bright Cleansing Water and Light Cleansing Oil; which doesn't seem to be available in the Philippines or is always out of stock. I think the cleansing water will be perfect for those with oily skin though! The line also has cleansing towelettes which will be great for travel. These are very affordable as I was able to build my collection in a matter of weeks. They are all just PHP350 each! Oh, the cleansing cream was PHP395, pala. Still, these are really big and will probably last me more than 2-3 months of daily use. Great value, I say.
Another thing about this line is that they all smell so good...just...so good. The smell is soft, white floral. It makes it a pleasurable experience to cleanse. For me it has turned into some sort of aromatherapy ritual, actually. I'm not usually into fragrant skincare and even avoid products with added fragrance, but these are the exception! Happily, the fragrance in these haven't irritated my skin so I'll continue to enjoy them.
A word of caution though, if you are sensitive to or dislike products with mineral oil, you should skip these. Personally, mineral oil has never caused a problem for me and actually suits me.
My love for The Face Shop Rice Water Bright has been sudden and sweeping but it runs deep nonetheless. I say, give them a try! The line is so extensive, I'm sure you can find a cleanser that will suit you from this collection.
Have a bright day ahead!
