Makeup-wise, for me, June is like the beginning of the transitioning into the cooler seasons because the weather generally starts to get gloomy and rainy in the Philippines. The problem is, gloomy and rainy doesn't necessarily mean cooler weather here. It means sticky, humid weather. Picture this, you are in the city, but you feel like you are in a swamp.
Makeup in this kind of weather needs to be lightweight yet yield good coverage and color, and good longevity. Here are my favorites last June. Sorry for the photo. It was gloomy and rainy. Sigh.
Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless Foundation
The coverage is a solid medium yet it feels lightweight on the skin. It stays put in humid weather without primer for half the day. When set with powder and setting spray, this can last for full day while keeping its skin-like finish. I reviewed this baby here.
E.L.F. Perfect Finish HD Powder
This is the pressed version of E.L.F.'s oft raved about HD setting powder. I randomly picked this up at Duty Free and loved that it doesn't add coverage but simply sets my base and refines the skin's appearance. I like my makeup to look as natural as possible always and this is a very nice setting powder for that.
Maybelline Master Strobe Illuminating Cream in Nude
Humid weather makes my face sweat so much and dehydrates my skin. I noticed that whenever I use this all over my face under foundation, it gives a hydrated look. This isn't hydrating in any way but it helps keep my skin looking luminous despite a long and tiring day. Also, it looks glorious when used as traditional highlighter: tops of cheeks, inner corners of the eyes..it makes skin come alive without any tackiness.
MAC Burgundy Times Nine Eyeshadow Palette
My travel buddy and all around eye shadow palette nowadays. I'm not THAT into eyeshadows because I don't always go for an elaborate look , so the size and content of this palette is practical for me. It also helps that the shades here work beautifully with my yellow-olive complexion and defines my eyes without overpowering them. To me, the shades are just the right amount of drama and class.
MAC Blushbaby Sheertone Blush
My favorite blush forever. I have other blushes but I always reach for this one. It looks natural yet polished, bright but subdued. When placed correctly below the cheekbones, it works as my contour. I've made a pretty big dent in it already...but we all know I'm going to repurchase this.
Maybelline The Loaded Bolds in Gone Greige (USA) and Chocoholic (Asia)
Gone Greige is like a nude color on me. Nude gray? Blushed gray? It looks unique to me and I love wearing it when it's gloomy out with softly smudged smoky eyes. On the other hand, I'll wear Chocoholic with practically nothing else on my face a la French girl. Chocoholic is a brown-red with the right amount of depth and brightness to it which makes it very wearable.
Wet N Wild Color Icon Single in Brulee
This one is such a versatile eyeshadow. The color is said to be the perfect dupe for MAC Brule eyeshadow too. At Php89, this was a complete steal, so I bought two: one for my makeup bag and one for use at home. It's a creamy, pale beige color that I can use to brighten my lids to cancel out any darkness. When in a hurry, the powder is fine enough to set under eye concealer. So nifty and tiny!
MAC Eye Kohl in Teddy
This is what I use for the softly smudged smoky eyes I was telling you about. It's soft and moves around. On its own, it doesn't really set and tends to migrate during the day. But I LOVE the mess it makes. It makes my makeup look 'lived-in' and not too 'made up'. It's a reddish brown, so when it's been set with warm eyeshadows, it's very beautiful and charming, I think. Paired with eyeshadow, this doesn't move around anymore which makes it so versatile for an eyeliner.
Not pictured are my staples, Fit Me Concealer, Lash Sensational Mascara and Brow Precise Fiber Volumizer, all from Maybelline. Also not pictured is MAC Fix+ which I always use to set makeup now. That one really helps prolong all the other makeup.
. . .
And there ya have it. My June Makeup Favorites! I hope You enjoyed seeing the stuff that I've been using the past month. July ahead is looking extra gloomy and wet so I'll probably be taking out my deeper lipsticks for a spin! What have been your favorites last June?
Have a great day, as always!
