Sooooo, my 30-day yoga challenge has drawn to a close and here are the amazing effects daily yoga practice has done for me.
Apart from having something else to look forward to each day, yoga has taught me to have a connection to my own body like I’ve never experienced before. With a practice that focuses and emphasizes on the breath, it’s no wonder why I felt so stressed out before, I had literally forgotten how to breathe easy. Controlled breathing really does release stress and it strengthens the body for it to do those twists, folds and bends.
Yoga also taught me to be kind to myself. Most times, I felt conscious of how others might think of me or how they might see me; I was always worried about doing well enough. Here, especially with Yin Yoga, the practice I focused on; I learned that I just had to allow myself to let my body be itself and just let it do what it can do. I now understand that I don’t need to force or rush into anything be it a thought or a pose. In my daily life, I felt more attuned to my body's needs for food, exercise, rest and sleep. I no longer feel guilty when I take time off to rest and reset. I also discovered abilities I never knew I had until I let go of my inhibitions on the mat. Now, I’m even more excited with the possibilities! I mean, I knew I was bendy, but I didn’t know I had the strength not to break in half! A flexible body is a strong body!
And I also made lots of new friends! It’s so nice to be around genuinely happy people every day! Everybody is so chill and positive and supportive at the studio in Yoga Plus Express Nuvali. Like, I know everyone has their own lives outside of yoga…but I see everyone’s just happy to be there! That amazed me and it was contagious!
Call it the effects of yoga, or call it benefits, yoga practice can and will help you live a happier life. I can honestly say I feel happier now than I did a month ago, when I would wonder and think, “what if?” I had set an intention for myself that I would do yoga to gain more strength of body and I have! What I did not expect was the overall influence of yoga on my lifestyle.
I believe the end of my Yoga 30-day challenge is just the beginning of other yoga challenges to come! I’ve already enrolled myself in another full month of unlimited classes so I’m very excited to learn the different practices. Right now, I am so in love with Yin yoga and Flow; soon I’d like to try Hot Yoga and/or Ashtanga, but who knows when? My body will just let me know. ;)
